Jessica Levant
I am an abstract mixed media artist playing with paint and collage, a multitude of tools, generally bold colors, and a large dose of risk-taking with the unknown. I morphed into this practice from a photo art during the pandemic, getting textural joy from working with materials instead of pixels. For all my processes, however, I am inspired by creating what one does not often see in nature. For photography, that meant looking for unusual angles, shadows, or shapes, or manipulating images to create something unique. For my work with paint and paper, I take bold unpredictable steps that I then have to work with to achieve an aesthetically pleasing whole. I am always aiming to get the right balance between aesthetics and innovation and ever trying to simplify. I’m not there yet but am ever hopeful!
