My creative work is primarily driven by an acute awareness that I far too easily forget that there’s much more to life than what I observe in the world around me. Glass has a wonderful way of helping me remember the “more” of life, the visible and the invisible. Creating with glass brings moments when the dynamic movement of light draws me into previously invisible spaces. While the physics of light is, admittedly, a significant field of science, I am personally more apt to lean into seeing the dancing of light as a heart-expanding, mystical experience. Thomas Merton once wrote words in which I find an echo of my own experience:
Sink from your shallows, soul, into eternity.
We touch the rays we cannot see.
We feel the light that seems to sing.
My work with glass is motivated by the opportunity to be a witness to and a participant in the ongoing creation of beauty in this world at this time.
